A couple of years ago, I was working for Monica and Kade. They are devout catholics and we were talking about St. Anthony de Padua.
Our conversation inspired me to make this painting. I textured the background and then drew and cut out of wood, St. Anthony and Baby Jesus. Painted with metallic gold and bronze and aged/antiqued it.
Today, I went by Monica's and gave her this painting as a gift. It made her very happy and they're going to hang it over their fireplace in the middle of the room.
Monica is very special to me and I knew she would really appreciate this particular painting.
When they drive in the country, they always see scissor tailed flycatchers and they asked me to paint a sky and these birds in the skylight in their master bath. As the sun and clouds move, it makes the mural very interesting. It was fun seeing it again. The ceiling is actually white, not black. But, the black kind of nicely highlights the mural in this photo.
I have painted in almost every room in their home and it's always nice to go back and visit my work.
Wow is all I can say. I would love to look up at that mural everyday. It's breathtaking. I'm sure your gift to them held very special sentiments.
ReplyDeleteThankk you, Maggie. Yes, St. Anthony de Padua is an important saint to them.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful gift you made, love all the texture, and your ceiling window is fantastic, I love it with the black, it does showcase your work perfectly, thanks Lynda for sharing the magic you make, have a wonderful day..
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dianne! Her ceiling is white but, my camera flash only highlighted the mural. I think that looks nice, too.
DeleteThis is very lovely Lynda. I once painted a night sky on a bathroom ceiling and painted five stars, representing my family "falling" down from the sky. I also painted a monkey reaching for a melon slice above the door in the dining room of that house and when we sold the house, the new family, who did renovations, removed that piece of gypboard, monkey, melon and all, and brought it to me. I was really touched. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a very special story!! I'm sure they couldn't bear to paint over your artwork. Hope you were able to use it, again.
DeleteYour new painting is stunning, what a precious gift. Love the painting in the bathroom too. Thanks tons for joining Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty

DeleteOh my gosh Lynda! That sky painting with the birds is absolutely gorgeous! The cherub picture I use for my profile picture is one of 3 cherubs that a gal painted in the tray ceiling of my living room. It reminds me of yours. I just wish my blue was a little darker. Congrats for being featured at Sandi's HOME. Have a great week! Gina
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I've been thinking about your painting. If you get a darker blue paint and paint on and rub off with a rag, that would look like a sky. Just use a smaller brush and paint on and rub out away from the cherubs when you're close to them. You can, also, thin your paint with water and that might be easier to work with. Have a wet sponge or wet rag nearby, just in case you have to wipe paint off of your cherubs. Also, if you just want to age your ceiling and artwork, use a tea stain and do the very same technique, and paint it over the cherubs, too, and rub off a little harder on the cherubs. I think any paint store can make you a tea stain or aging glaze. But, if you want a solid paint again, just use a small brush to outline around your cherubs and then paint the ceiling your darker blue.
DeleteBeautiful! I love all of your paintings! Thank you for joining Home Sweet Home!
