(UPDATE:  OMGoodness!!  I was working at Gayle's this morning and she told me that she had played golf yesterday and got a hole-in-one!!  Her golf friends were cheering and when she got home her husband had already started celebrating!! and had banners and stuff around congratulating her. WOW!  Congratulations, Gayle!!)
Gayle loves decorating her home.  A while back I painted those peach walls.  Her dining room is attached to this living room and has peach walls, also. I asked if we could paint her ceiling a peachy red to blend with the walls and she let me paint that, too.  I don't have photos of her dining room ceiling, but will take some next week because I'm working there again starting Monday.
Her mantel in her living room was a pickled oak finish.  One of us mentioned the black and I knew it would look really good with all of her peach decor and her black rug and furniture.  (well, I just talked to Gayle and she said it was my idea to paint her mantel black.  She said I was there painting something else and I told her we just had to paint the mantel black! and she agreed and let me paint it and she just said that she loves the way it looks now.)
Doesn't this room look soooo cozy!!
Painting the mantel black made such a dramatic difference to the room.
First, I primed the mantel.  Then, I painted it with a black oil based paint and rubbed the edges with a rag so the brown base coat color would show through, thus looking a bit distressed.
Then, I sealed it with two coats of an oil based sealer.
I love the way this turned out and it looks so beautiful in her already beautiful living room.
This is Gayle's dining room ceiling.  The peachy red adds a nice touch to the dining room and ties in so nicely with the living room decor.

HAND PAINTED & DISTRESSED COUNTRY FRENCH CABINET WITH BIRD & NEST ARTWORK

HAND PAINTED & DISTRESSED COUNTRY FRENCH CABINET WITH BIRD & NEST ARTWORK

SAVE YOUR OLD FURNITURE & MAKE IT NEW AGAIN

My client wanted me to paint this cabinet for her store.  She left the colors up to me and asked me to make it country french.  I painted a soft red as an undercoat then I painted it yellow and distressed it. I painted the trim a soft blue.  Next, I painted the bird and nest artwork on the doors.  After I painted the artwork, I glazed the chest and cabinet with a greeny brown antiquing glaze that I mixed.  Clear glaze and a bit of paint.  Mix well.
Sometimes I have so much going on in my studio, that I have to work in other rooms of my house.  This is my dining room and these pieces were so large that I had to move my table and chairs into the living room.  It's always a bit crowded, but not for long.
In my work, painting furniture is my very favorite thing to do.
I left the soft red color inside the top of the cabinet.
The shades of red, yellow and blue looked wonderful together.
I love my job!

PAINTING A WHITE PANTRY DOOR TO AN AGED DISTRESSED FINISH & PAINTING ON GLASS FOR ANNA & DIEGO

PAINTING A WHITE PANTRY DOOR TO AN AGED DISTRESSED FINISH & PAINTING ON GLASS FOR ANNA & DIEGO

Anna and Diego have a beautiful new home.
Their pantry door was white and they asked me to paint it to make it look old.
Like the wood panel at the bottom of the door, there was a wood panel at the top.
They asked a carpenter to cut the top wooden panel out and prep it for a piece of glass.
They wanted me to paint a design and "EL MERCADO" on the glass.
I showed Anna some of my stencils.
We chose from each stencil the design she wanted on the glass.
I painted the top design first and sent a picture to Anna.  She decided that we needed to take away pieces of the bottom stencil so it wouldn't look so busy.
I used graphite paper to trace the design onto the glass.
And, used an eraser to erase the part of the design that Anna didn't want.
I used a tiny brush to paint with DecoArt black glossie paint.
Two coats of paint and sealed with a sealer for protection.
Door before I painted it.
Anna just sent this picture to me.
She found this crystal knob and backplate at an antique store.
They want me to do something to it to make it match the door.
I will touch up the screws, too.
Thank you to Anna and Diego for a fun project!
Their kitchen cabinets have a light brown glaze that goes well with the door.
