VISITING SAUNDRA'S NEW HOME IN THE COUNTRY

Saundra recently moved into her new home.  She's still working to get everything in it's place.

Remember a few weeks ago when I shared with you the large picture frames I was repainting.  Well, this is one of  them.  Once Saundra hung it on the new stones and with the new spot light it didn't show up like she thought it would.  She needed me to work on it a little bit more.  So, this week I got to drive out to the country and see her new home.  I suggested we paint black around the edges and that finally worked.  She's holding it up for my photo.

Her new home is really beautiful!  Love these light fixtures in her entry hall.

Dining Room.  

There's a hallway on the other side of the room leading to her butler's pantry and kitchen.

This is her very open great room, kitchen and smaller dining area. 

 Those huge windows look over a greenbelt and woods full of oak trees, deer and other wildlife.

She told me that one day when they came home there were four tiny fawns inside their fence.

(I REALLY loved that!)

Kitchen and HUGE island.

I love this table and chairs.  Look at the light fixture.  She has really beautiful light fixtures throughout.  Those windows overlook her very large patio and outdoor kitchen. 

 They're still working on that, too.

Love this bed.

I'm sure she'll be adding paintings and rug.

The pillows are so beautiful.  

The peacocks are sewn with beads that sparkle from the natural light of the windows.

They look really good with her new bedding.

Saundra is one of the decorators I've worked with for years.
She just moved to her new home that she and her husband designed.
 I haven't gotten to see it yet, but I know it is beautiful.

She made changes in her color scheme and is using a lot of grays.  

That's why she brought this chair for me to paint.  It is just fabulous! 

 The style might be Egyptian, I'm not sure.  Possibly a mythical lion.

The new browny gray/silver fabric that she chose made the finish on the chair color look too yellow.

She chose from my samples and wanted the finish to be a very dark brown with the original color showing through.  There is a color in the fabric that is a dark browny magenta/purple.  

It was a bit harrowing knowing I would have to paint around this very expensive new fabric.

Harrowing definition:  Extremely disturbing or distressing.  

Yep, that was me.  I kept putting off working on it, but knew Saundra was waiting. 

 I used an oil based gel stain.  So, I covered it with a plastic drop cloth and put the tape on the fabric very close to the wood.  I used a small artist brush to paint down in the crevices close to the fabric.  As I was finished with each step, I carefully removed the tape because I didn't know if there might be a reaction between the tape and the fabric.  Because the paint was still wet I had to be very, very careful when I was removing the tape and plastic.  

See!  This was not an easy job!!

Contrast between the old and the new finishes.

She was so right about the new finish color.  

As I was wiping off the brown stain, I left a lot of it in the crevices.  

Now you really notice the beautiful carved design.  

See that darker color in the fabric?  The new finish ties in so well with it.

I can hardly wait to see Saundra's new home. 

 She said the chair was beautiful in it's new spot.

(Now that this nerve-wracking experience is over :)

KITCHEN REMODEL ~ PAINTING JUDI'S KITCHEN CABINETS FROM PICKLED/WHITE WASHED TO A GLAZED PAINT FINISH

Last November I told you I would share pictures of a kitchen I was working on just before Thanksgiving.
I've been really busy with work and I'm way behind on sharing with you.  

I love the transformation of this kitchen.  

Judi had the pickled/white washed finish on her cabinets.  Everything was the same height in her kitchen.  She wanted a tall vent-a-hood over her stove and a tall cabinet to the right of her dishwasher.  In these pictures you can see the microwave oven over her stove.  Notice the fluorescent light fixtures.  Those were removed and recessed lighting was added.  

She will be replacing the light fixture over the dining table.  

So, here is her beautiful new kitchen.  Isn't it wonderful!!  What a difference.

Her new vent-a-hood. 

 A carpenter removed those cabinets over the stove and built this tall one.  

Also, she had gray tile installed for her backsplash.

Here is her new tall cabinet and a new space for the microwave oven.

She had the carpenter change this island, too.  I can't remember, but I think they added those pedestals and the beadboard.  I think it was black, before.

Also, these pictures of her kitchen still had the white undercoat for the glaze.  Not glazed, yet.

Judi wanted her cabinets to be white with a very light gray brown glaze.  This is a close up of the finish that I painted in her wet bar and living room.  She was going to put a decorative glass on the cabinet door.  I'm sure that's been done since I left.

Here are the handles she used and they are so nice with the light cabinet color.  

The picture on the right with turquoise is the new top for her island.

Here are her wonderful doggies.  They were sooo sweet.  Their names are Willie and Shadow.  Willie is a retired narcotics dog.  I told Judi, "well, he won't detect anything on me".  He's older and she said he might not remember, but I bet he does.  

As I said, I love the transformation of this kitchen
