PAINTING A BEAUTIFUL CEILING MEDALLION WITH THE WALL COLOR

PAINTING A BEAUTIFUL CEILING MEDALLION WITH THE WALL COLOR

For the past couple of weeks I've been working in the most beautiful home under construction.
The owners asked me to paint a special finish on alllll of the cabinets in the whole house.  They want everything to look old.  I think they said they are wanting it to look like a lodge.
Yesterday I got permission to take pictures of anything I want, but I can't say where it is or who it belongs to.  I do understand that!  So, I'll be sharing lots of pictures with you.  It's one of my favorite homes EVER!

They got this beautiful large ceiling medallion for the dining room and said maybe I could paint it to match the cabinets nearby.  I said, I'll be glad to do that but let me show you how it will look if I paint it with the wall color.

It was already white.  I used the wall color and painted on and used a rag to wipe off some areas.  Then, I painted the swirly scrollie areas more solid to contrast and set off the lighter wiped areas.
Because the paint was an eggshell sheen, it did not need to be sealed.

My clients were very happy with the way it looked with the wall color.
It really does look so nice!
I love all of the colors they're using in this house.  They're gray greens and greeny off whites.
This house is out in the country and these colors look so beautiful with the beautiful nature scenes you can see from their very large windows.

  1. I love this detailed piece. And I understand wanting to keep the same colors. But I would like to see a bolder color highlight the details a bit. Since it looks big and it's up high on the ceiling I'd say go for it. But then I'm not the person who has to re-paint it if it does not go well. But it is a beautiful piece. Great work.

    1. Thanks! I bet that would look really nice, but I'm doing what the client wants and approves. She's a designer. I guess everybody's taste is different and through the years I've learned to appreciate that.

  2. What a gorgeous medallion! I have one in my living room and dining room in my 1870's Victorian. They are painted the color of the ceiling. I might have to get up there and embellish them a bit!

    1. Yes!! I have no idea where they found this one, but it really is beautiful. I love the medallions painted the ceiling color, too. I think they just dress up a room, even if they're white.

    1. Yes, especially that ceiling. Now, for the chandelier. I'll be sure to share that, too. And, thank you so much. I like to share what I do in homes and, hopefully, inspire my friends.

  11. Beautiful! Love it!
My husband and I put up beautiful ceiling medallions in the kitchen, dining room, living room and master bed room. They made such a difference and showcase the antique chandeliers and lighting fixtures. They are cost effective and easy to paint and install. A good weekend project.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Have a lovely weekend.

    1. I agree with everything you said. Even if you think "oh, that pattern isn't going to work on my ceiling", it probably would. I've never seen one that didn't enhance the ceiling and fixture.
