STAINING DECORATIVE CORBELS FOR A STOVE VENT-A-HOOD

STAINING DECORATIVE CORBELS FOR A STOVE VENT-A-HOOD

My client wanted to replace the corbels on the tile under her stove vent-a-hood.
She found these really beautiful ornate corbels.
They were natural wood and didn't have a finish on them.
She asked me to stain them to match the decor in her kitchen.
Her vent-a-hood was faux painted with a brown glaze.
Her granite and the tile behind her stove had a lot of brown tones, too.
She held the corbel for me so I could take this picture.
I think they will look really beautiful when she has them attached to the tile.
You can put corbels under a  stove vent-a-hood, under a shelf, under a mirror, on either side of a mirror...there are so many ways you can decorate your home with corbels.
You can paint them any color, stain them or even leave them a natural wood color.
Look online for corbels in a store near you.

HAND PAINTING MARSHA'S DINING ROOM FURNITURE A GRAY & WHITE DISTRESSED FINISH

HAND PAINTING MARSHA'S DINING ROOM FURNITURE A GRAY & WHITE DISTRESSED FINISH

Marsha asked me to paint her dining room furniture.
She wanted a lightly crackled and distressed gray and white finish.
Of course crackle, distress and aging are my favorite things to do.
She chose a beautiful gray and white fabric for her chair cushions.
The rug has lots of green, gray and rusty rose colors.
This is a close up of the finish on her buffet/sideboard.
After painting and distressing I rubbed a very light gray glaze over all.
Before she had the cushions covered, she sent me a picture of the fabric.
Isn't it beautiful!!
She wanted me to paint the top of the dining table and buffet a lightly crackled gray.
Wonderful little Zoey & Zeus.
Sooo cute and fun!
This is one of my favorite kitchens.
A while back I painted, glazed and distressed the cabinets.
The white granite is amazing!!
This is the large kitchen island that I painted and distressed a dark gray green.
Then I applied a heavy coat of glaze over the green to antique or age the piece.
I love the handles that Marsha chose.
They found this stained glass piece in rural Texas.  It came from an old church.
They put a light behind it and it looks really, really nice with the light on.
The dining room is so large it was easy painting the furniture right there in place.  Marsha will be replacing that china cabinet in the background.  She has a larger cabinet that is full of  antique family quilts and I think she is planning to put it on that back wall.  Also, she is going to paint the frame on the mirror in gray and silver tones leaving a little gold.
Her furniture was really beautiful before, but is really, really nice now.
Marsha is very happy!!
Me too!

REUPHOLSTERING LIVING ROOM CHAIRS & PAINTING LEGS TO MATCH THE FABRIC

REUPHOLSTERING LIVING ROOM CHAIRS & PAINTING LEGS TO MATCH THE FABRIC

My client is redecorating her living room.
She's painting walls a gray brown and found this new fabric for her chairs.
It is so beautiful with grays and browns.  It looks like a silk blend.
Originally the legs of these chairs were a pickled oak.
Several years ago when she was redecorating and recovering the chairs
she asked me to paint the legs a brown to go with the new fabric back then.
This time I rubbed a gray brown color over the existing brown stain that I painted before.
This is how the legs looked when I painted the pickled oak with the brown gel stain.
They felt the brown was a little too outdated for this new fabric.
I do appreciate her remembering to call me again because
This is the work I love to do.
This is wonderful, sweet Dallas.
He was born on Christmas day.  Many years ago I met him in the winter after he was born.
They had just gotten him and LOVED LOVED LOVED him!!
This Christmas he will be 14 years old.
 He's looking at his daddy.
My client is redecorating this powder room, too.
I painted the cabinets with a gel stain over pickled oak.
And I applied a tissue paper technique on her walls.
I think it still looks really good, but she's wanting to change things.
Well ok, then!

HAND PAINTING ARTWORK ON ANTIQUE CEILING TINS

HAND PAINTING ARTWORK ON ANTIQUE CEILING TINS

This is an old metal ceiling tin I found at an antique salvage store.
As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to paint it.
It had some rust on it.  I washed it well and primed it hoping the rust would not come back through the paint.  If a little rust came back through the paint that would look good, too.
After priming I painted the artwork on the corners.
Then, painted an antiquing glaze on top of all of the paint.
When my client saw the ceiling tin above she wanted me to paint two of her antique ceiling tins. She had just built a new home out in the country and was still having fun decorating.  There was a little rust on these and I did not prime them.  I swiped paint over the whole tin.  When I saw that scrollie design at the bottom, I knew they would be really beautiful as a vase.
So, I painted the vases with flowers right over the embossed design.
I used her colors and she hung them over her bed.
Later when I visited I knew they were in the perfect place.
 So pretty!!

PAINTING A WHITE DISTRESSED FINISH ON NIGHT STANDS FOR KATIE & TRENTON'S NEW HOME

PAINTING A WHITE DISTRESSED FINISH ON NIGHT STANDS FOR KATIE & TRENTON'S NEW HOME

Katie's mom had these really nice Drexel Heritage night stands.
They had a nice finish on them,
but Katie wanted them to be white distressed to match other furniture I've painted for her.
I always paint a base coat.
The darker base coat will show through when I distress the furniture.
Remember the farmhouse table I painted a while back?
It was for Katie & Trenton's new home.
They wanted the very same colors painted on these two night stands.
(BEFORE)
Katie & Trenton are about to have a new baby.  Their very first one.
We're happy for you and looking forward to meeting that sweet baby!

MY NEW DESK ~1938 WEDDING GIFT

This is my new desk.
It was given to a couple as a wedding gift in 1938.
I love, love, love this desk.
The finish was a little scratched, especially on the top,
so I decided to paint it to match the armoire in my study.
I painted and distressed these two pieces.
The colors are gray and white with an antiquing glaze to age the finish.
If ever I want it to be the original stained finish again, I can do that.
Look at these claw feet!
This is the original hardware.  I painted and distressed each of the handles, also.
It fits perfectly on this wall in my study.
I'm so happy with all of the drawers for organizing things I usually stack on the top.
Really, really, really love my new desk!!

CHILDBIRTH AT 65

CHILDBIRTH AT 65

CHILDBIRTH AT 65:
"With all the technology regarding fertility recently, a 65 yr old friend of mine was able to give birth. When she was discharged from the hospital and went home, I went to visit.
"May I see the baby?" I said.
"Not yet" she said.
"I'll make coffee and we'll chat for a while first."
Thirty minutes had passed and I asked
"May I see the baby now?"
 "No, not yet" she said.
After another few minutes had elapsed, I asked again,
"May I see the baby now?"
"No, not yet" replied my friend.
 Growing very impatient, I asked,
"Well, when can I see the baby?"
"WHEN HE CRIES" she told me.
"WHEN HE CRIES" I demanded! "Why do I have to wait until he CRIES?"
"BECAUSE I FORGOT WHERE I PUT HIM, OK??"

PAINTING A DISTRESSED & AGED TURQUOISE FINISH ON XOCHITL'S ANTIQUE DESK

PAINTING A DISTRESSED & AGED TURQUOISE FINISH ON XOCHITL'S ANTIQUE DESK

Xochitl asked me to paint this desk for her.
It is a really old desk and had that big crack across the top.
She asked if I could paint it a color in her rug.
And, asked if I could distress it to hide that crack.
I made some samples to show her and this is the color and technique she liked.
Look at all of these pockets to organize desk things.
Close up of the distressing and aging technique.
Getting started.
No one in the world sweeter than Xochitl!
(You pronounce that something like "Sochee".)

SURPRISE FOR CARLEE ~ PAINTING NEW GRAY & WHITE BEDROOM COLORS

SURPRISE FOR CARLEE ~ PAINTING NEW GRAY & WHITE BEDROOM COLORS

Kym wanted to surprise Carlee by redecorating her bedroom.
She asked me to paint Carlee's walls and ceiling a wonderful browny gray.
Kym found some crystal sparkle lights and asked me to paint a frame for them.
She said Carlee could hang photos on the light strands.
Look at this rug!
Look at this wonderful! chair for Carlee's desk.
These are the family's new puppies, Penny & Paxton.
They are toy Aussies and the most beautiful little dogs!!!
I love this quote!
Kym told me the size she wanted the frame to be.
With my level and a pencil, I drew the lines, then painted the soft white color inside the lines.
Room "BEFORE".
Very different, now.
Carlee was thrilled with her new room.
"THANKS MOM!"

PAINTING CABINETS FROM STAINED OAK TO A BLACK DISTRESSED FINISH FOR SUZIE & MIKE

PAINTING CABINETS FROM STAINED OAK TO A BLACK DISTRESSED FINISH FOR SUZIE & MIKE

Mike and Suzie wanted all of their downstairs cabinets to be black distressed.
When they moved into this house, all of the cabinets were stained oak.
Earlier, they had someone paint their entertainment center in the great room.
The painters painted the cabinets black and distressed the edges.  Their kitchen cabinets are white, distressed and glazed.  This is a large open area, so you can see the white kitchen and black entertainment center at the same time and the contrast is really sharp with beige walls.
They called and asked me to paint the rest of the downstairs cabinets.
Also, the cabinets in Mike's home office.
This is their wet bar.  As I was priming and painting the cabinets, they asked if anything could be done to the small textured beige wall that separated the top and bottom cabinets.  I told them I could paint it black and make the bar look like one big piece of furniture.
They liked that idea.
Suzie was looking at my blog and found some pictures of design embossing that I had done on other furniture.  I showed her several stencils so she could pick the design she wanted.
Then, she asked if I could do embossing on that little wall.
She drew the "H" and created the design for me to paint.
I think she did a great job!
She didn't want the inside of the cabinet to be black.
I suggested she let me paint metallic paint inside the cabinet and the same metallic paint on the embossed designs and edges of the drawers.
Above is the pool bath cabinet.  (different technique from the others)
Because the great room cabinets were already painted black, I asked if I could paint each of the other rooms with a little different technique.
All of the cabinets would still be black, but different.
I knew my painting and distressing would be different from the other painter's technique.
It's hard to match someone else's painting.
This is very sweet, beautiful little Macy.  Such a nice doggie.
In Mike's home office, there were two very large cabinets.
 LOTS of shelves!
I painted the cabinets black and gently rubbed the black off of the edges.
He had a beautiful stained wood desk...oh my goodness!
So pretty and looked so good witht the black cabinets.
See this box of soccer balls...
they were given to Mike by a friend who had collected from every World Cup since 1970!
Mike found clear acrylic shelves and will place each ball on a shelf on one of his walls.
Then, they noticed the stair rail.
I think it was the only piece of stained oak wood left in the downstairs area.
So, I painted it, too.
This is the cabinet in the downstairs powder room.  Love! the copper sink.
The metallic paint that I used for the embossing and trim was a coppery color.
A very nice touch on the black.

I really love the way Mike and Suzie's home looks with the new black cabinets.
Thank you, Suzie and Mike!
